Red-hot Toronto FC visits Revolution (Jun 03, 2017)
On the heels of Wednesday's victory against the Ottawa Fury, Toronto FC is on the cusp of winning its sixth Canadian Championship in nine years.
But the team turns its attention back to MLS play Saturday night when Toronto FC visits the New England Revolution at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Mass.
Toronto FC blanked Ottawa 4-0 and advanced to the Canadian Championship finals on a 5-2 aggregate score for the seventh year in the tournament's nine-year history.
Toronto FC faces the Montreal Impact in the two-leg final on June 21 and 27.
New England (4-5-5) is also coming off a high note as it salvaged a 2-2 draw on the road against New York City FC on Wednesday night.
Xavier Kouassi headed in the equalizer in the 86th minute as the Revs erased their second one-goal deficit of the game to escape with one point.
"As the game went on and we had to come back twice, you're happy with a point," New England coach Jay Heaps said. "I thought our guys battled really hard."
It was Kouassi's first MLS goal, and it came after he sustained an apparent leg injury. The midfielder's status for Saturday's game is uncertain.
Toronto FC (8-1-5) sits atop the Eastern Conference, five points clear of the second-place Chicago Fire.
Its most recent league game featured a similar result as Toronto FC routed the Columbus Crew SC 5-0 on May 26. Victor Vazquez scored twice as the team stretched its unbeaten streak to a club-record eight games.
Marky Delagdo (red card suspension) will not play for Toronto FC. Jozy Altidore and Michael Bradley are also unavailable on international duty.
Tosaint Ricketts is doubtful after leaving Wednesday's game with a hamstring injury.
"It's always a challenge, but the good thing is that we know we have guys that ... can make things happen on the field," Toronto FC coach Greg Vanney said.
New England, which is 10-5-9 all-time against Toronto FC, is injury-free aside from Kouassi.
