Report: Barcelona linked to USA, Dortmund rising star Christian Pulisic
FC Barcelona has become interested in rising American star Christian Pulisic, Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo reports.
Pulisic, 18, has become a regular for Borussia Dortmund's first team this season, receiving substantial playing time in Bundesliga and Champions League play for the German power. He has one goal in five Bundesliga games (four starts) and helped set up Dortmund's equalizer against Real Madrid in the Champions League last month.
The nature of Barcelona's interest is unclear. The report claims the club has escalated its scouting of the Hershey, Pa., native. Pulisic was the subject of summer interest from RB Leipzig and Liverpool, according to SI's Grant Wahl, but Dortmund was steadfast in its refusal to sell Pulisic. His contract with the club lasts through 2019, though he was offered a new five-year deal last spring and turned it down. Wahl also reported that Liverpool could make another run at signing him either in the January transfer window or next summer.
Pulisic is not the first American linked to Barcelona in recent years. Two years ago, Mundo Deportivo linked U.S. international Fabian Johnson to Barcelona, but nothing came of the rumors, and Johnson remains at Borussia Monchengladbach.
