Report: Otamendi set for Man City medical after deal reached with Valencia
Nicolas Otamendi is set to have a medical at Manchester City after a £31.7million ($49.6 million) fee was agreed with Valencia, according to reports.
The Argentinian centre-back, 27, is thought to be already in Manchester after he was dropped from the Valencia squad to face Monaco in their Champions League play-off first leg on Wednesday.
Sky sources understand Otamendi, who signed for Valencia from Porto in 2014, will sign a five-year deal at the Etihad.
And Sky Sports' Spanish football expert Guillem Balague told Sky Sports News HQ that common ground was found quickly between the clubs after a previous incident involving Eliaquim Mangala going to La Mestalla on loan fell through.
"There was a leak from Spain on Friday that a deal had been agreed at €40m and a loan deal for Mangala", Balague said.
"But by the time City had beaten Chelsea on Sunday, Valencia learned that Mangala did want to go to Valencia, or go out on loan, so that meant they had to find another figure and reach another agreement.
"Valencia said that Otamendi has a €50m buy-out clause, but they managed to find common ground at €45m and there are no loan arrangements attached and it has no relation, either, to any money owed for Alvaro Negredo."
