Riyad Mahrez once got on his bike to escape St. Mirren... literally!
Life hasn't always been rosy for Leicester ace Riyad Mahrez.
The 25-year-old has made a name for himself in the Premier League this season and could help the Foxes complete their fairytale season with victory at Old Trafford on Sunday. But the newly crowned PFA Player of the Year shed some light on a rather amusing tidbit of his footballing past.
As part of an upcoming feature on the Algeria international, "L'Equipe" dredged up a handful of extracts in which Mahrez recounted a two-month trial stint with the reserves at Scottish side St. Mirren. After netting seven times in his first four appearances, he was curiously exiled for two-and-a-half months.
"It was physical and it was cold," he said. "We trained in the snow! I felt that I progressed, I wasn't allowed to go so I left in secret."
And by secret, he meant he faked an injury.
"I borrowed a bike so I could get my things I had left at the training ground, before catching a train to the airport and going home."
Mahrez wound up signing with Le Havre, making the jump to Leicester ... and the rest is history.
