Rodriguez wants to stay at Real Madrid 'for many years'

James Rodriguez insists he wants to stay with Real Madrid "for many years", despite losing his place in the starting line-up.

The Colombian remained on the bench during Real's penalty shoot-out win over Atletico Madrid in the Champions League final in Milan on Saturday.

James made only 21 starts for Real this season, with manager Zinedine Zidane preferring Casemiro in a defensive midfield role.

But the 24-year-old, who moved to the Bernabeu in 2014 for an estimated 80m euros, says the experience has been a learning curve.

"The season was a little strange but when you have bad things you learn too, eventually you learn every day.

"You never know in football but I want to stay here and my idea is to be here for many more years.

"I think I need to look forward. I'm happy here. All my people are happy. This is the ideal club and I want to be here.

"I'm happy, everyone played a great game and in the end it was good. I wanted the team to win, what's best is I get another Champions League."

Real captain Sergio Ramos also hinted that he wanted to remain at the club until his retirement, pledging his allegiance to president Florentino Perez.

The 30-year-old Spaniard said: "I won't live forever, but I'm proud of the way [Perez] chairs the club. I'll always be wherever Florentino is."
