WASHINGTON (AP) — Wayne Rooney's fifth goal of the season put D.C. United ahead in the second half, but Bradley Wright-Phillips scored his third tying goal in the 90th minute to give the New York Red Bulls a 3-3 draw Sunday.

Rooney, a former England captain who made his Major League Soccer debut in July, gave D.C. United a 2-1 lead in the 64th minute when he one-touched Oniel Fisher's cross. Rooney also sent a shot off the crossbar in the 73rd minute, was denied on a breakaway in the 80th and had a corner kick in the second minute of stoppage time that was headed of a post.

Wright-Phillips became the second player in MLS history to score three tying goals in a game after Atlanta forward Josef Martinez last season, and he finished with his first hat trick since May 28, 2016. He scored in the 41st minute with a bicycle-kick goal off a rebound, rolled in a goal in the 76th and redirected a cross for his third goal. Wright-Phillips has 19 league goals, second only to Martinez's 28.

Paul Arriola scored D.C. United's first goal in the 25th, and Luciano Acosta put the hosts ahead with an individual effort in the 87th.
