Sam Allardyce will reportedly be named new England manager
Sam Allardyce will be England's new manager, according to multiple reports.
Sources have confirmed to Sky Sports, The Guardian and PA Sport that the FA have settled on the Sunderland manager. Big Sam's hiring will be made official at the FA board meeting on Thursday, after which he will be introduced.
The appointment would end a search that has gone on for more than three weeks as the Three Lions try to turn around a team that was embarrased by Iceland in their round of 16 exit at Euro 2016. Roy Hodgson had resigned from his post immediately after the match.
In the aftermath of Hodgson's resignation, Steve Bruce, Eddie Howe and Jurgen Klinsmann were all linked to the job. However, Allardyce has been the clear favorite ever since he met with FA representatives last week.
Allardyce was also the favorite to be named England manager ten years ago, but lost out to Steve McClaren. Now he's finally landed his dream job, which is by far the most high-profile job he's ever had.
While the focus will be on Allardyce and England, his hiring does create a problem for Sunderland. They are now without a manager and will have to hire their ninth boss in eight years with only a month before the season starts. The Black Cats began preparing for this possibility last week when Allardyce interviewed with the FA, and are rumored to be interested in former Real Sociedad boss David Moyes, who previously led Everton and Manchester United.
