Son Heung-min spurs Tottenham on without Harry Kane

For a moment, Tottenham fans felt as so they were watching Gareth Bale.

Son Heung-min was frustrating for Spurs last term, but his return to form has given Mauricio Pochettino’s team the spark it needs after losing Harry Kane indefinitely.

Son scored his third and fourth goals of the season in Tottenham’s 2-1 victory over Middlesbrough. This comes just two weeks after he bagged a brace in the 4-0 thumping of Stoke City.

At Middlesbrough, his second goal was a moment of genius. With no options other than to try and earn a corner, Son sprinted towards the edge of the box before cutting in and sending the ball into the top corner. It was a breathtaking goal, easily one of the best the league has seen so far this season.

“He has worked very hard on his game,” said Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino, according to The Telegraph. “I’m really pleased for him because he’s a really nice person to work with. It can take time to settle in a new country, a new league, especially the Premier League, it’s tougher than anywhere else.

“He is a different person, his personal situation is different and he has settled now which is fantastic. When you are an offensive player scoring goals, you can see the confidence he has.”

With Kane out for around two months with damaged ankle ligaments, Spurs need goals. Summer signing Vincent Janssen has drawn a blank in the Premier League, looking eerily like the second coming of Roberto Soldado. Son, in contrast, has been refreshing to watch this season. Without him, Tottenham’s undefeated start would be under pressure.

Up next for Spurs is a home game with Manchester City. City have won all six of their Premier League games under Pep Guardiola, and Tottenham will need more magic from their second-year man to hand Pep his first L.

Son has goals in him, now with four in the Premier League this season. Spurs will miss Kane for the remainder of his absence, and they will need more games like the one Son produced at Boro last weekend.

Tottenham are second in the Premier League after winning four and drawing two of their opening six games. If Son can keep up his excellent form, Spurs will have a great opportunity to knock off the title favorites at White Hart Lane this Sunday.

First up, though, they must navigate past CSKA Moscow in the Champions League on Tuesday night. This game is of high importance for Pochettino’s side after dropping their opener against Monaco a fortnight ago.
