Sources: Bruce Arena to be named USMNT manager, replacing Jurgen Klinsmann

Bruce Arena will be named the next United States manager, sources with knowledge of the situation have told FOX Sports.

U.S. Soccer fired Jurgen Klinsmann as the national team's manager and technical director on Monday. The Americans lost to Mexico and Costa Rica last week, their first two-loss start to the final round of World Cup qualifying. Klinsmann was hired in 2011 and his contract extended through the 2018 World Cup.

Arena managed the national team from 1998 to 2006. He took the Americans to the quarterfinals of the 2002 World Cup, the deepest the U.S. has gone at a World Cup in the modern era. His team struggled some in 2006, failing to get out of the group, but even then they qualified for the tournament with ease.

Arena is currently the manager of the LA Galaxy, but U.S. Soccer reportedly sounded out his interest in taking over for Klinsmann a year ago. He has won three MLS Cups and two Supporters' Shields in his nine years with LA.
