Spanish ref for Greek Cup final as fans clash with police

ATHENS, Greece (AP) The Greek Football Federation has appointed a Spanish referee for Saturday's Greek Cup final between champions AEK Athens and PAOK, following a season repeatedly marred by violence.

David Borbalan was named for the game at Athens' Olympic Stadium along with two Spanish assistants. Much of the violence at recent matches has come after disputed referee decisions.

More than 2,000 police officers will be on duty for the final following two nights of clashes between fans and riot police. Two officers received light injuries early Saturday after AEK fans clashed with police in central Athens.

Greece still faces a threat of suspension - or ''soccer Grexit'' - from FIFA unless the federation, clubs, and the government's sport ministry fulfill a list of promised reforms.
