Speculation unfair on Van Gaal after FA Cup win, believes Rooney
Wayne Rooney refused to discuss Louis van Gaal's future following Manchester United's FA Cup final victory over Crystal Palace and said the speculation over the manager's job was "unfair".
Multiple reports suggest that Jose Mourinho is set to become the next manager of United, with talks due to take place early next week.
Van Gaal refused to comment on his future following the win over Palace at Wembley, saying: "I show you the cup. I don't discuss [my future] with the media."
When asked about Van Gaal's possible departure from Old Trafford, United captain Rooney added: "I know nothing at all. That's a question for Louis van Gaal or Ed Woodward. It's nothing to do with me.
"I don't want to speak about how Louis van Gaal has been because he's still our manager and he's still in his job. I think it's unfair after he's led us to win the FA Cup that we speak about him as if he's not here.
"I think he's a good manager and we are grateful for him helping us win this FA Cup. It's down to him or Ed Woodward to decide what happens."
