Steven Gerrard and Robbie Keane took on a team of 24 eight-year-olds
Steven Gerrard and Robbie Keane went head to head-to-head-to-head-to-head -- you get it -- with a bunch of 8-year-olds in LA Galaxy's "Ridiculous Soccer Challenge", and there's great news for Galaxy fans: both stars got on the scoresheet.
Stevie G hasn't scored since July 15th, but he broke his duck early against the kids, opening the scoring after calmly bringing down a lofted cross from Keane-o and tucking it away. But if we're gonna be real, the goalkeeping was abysmal. Get it together kid, we expect better of our 8-year-olds out here.
Stevie G was elated, pulling his shirt over his head in celebration and showing off the thin layer of In-N-Out he's cultivated added to his paunch since touching down on the Best Coast. The big surprise here though? No card. Gotta be local favoritism.
The kids didn't care though, and Lil' Ponytail Headband (that's her name now, sorry mom and dad) followed up Gerrard's blocked shot to equalize. But WHERE is the rest of the defense? Poor Stevie's getting run all the way over.
At 1-1 things were tight when the Gerrard-Keane linkup paid dividends again for the Galaxy. This time it was Keane with the goal to make it 2-1 and put the pros deservedly ahead.
BUT WAIT.
IT'S LIL' PONYTAIL HEADBAND WITH THE BRACE!!!
Game on y'all. Against all odds and with only 22 more players than their opposition, it looked like the kids might actually have a chance. Especially if LPH could complete her hat trick.
Nope.
Robbie Keane doesn't like to lose. Not even against 8-year-olds. He took matters into his own hands, beating around 15 players to net the winner and doom the children to a gutting loss against professional athletes four times their age. They'll never live this one down.
Be proud of your efforts though kids. At least you did better than Orlando City.
