Suspicious package delays VIP exit at Wolfsburg after Champions League match
Spectators in the VIP area were prevented from leaving the Volkswagen Arena following Manchester United's 3-2 defeat to Wolfsburg after a suspect package was found in a car park outside the stadium.
They had to wait for approximately 15 minutes as police looked at the package. They were then allowed to leave after the police were satisfied it was not a bomb, a Wolfsburg official said.
Former United manager Sir Alex Ferguson and former chief executive David Gill were among those who had to wait to depart.
Security has been heightened at Champions League games following the Paris terror attacks last month when three suicide bombers blew themselves up close to the Stade de France while France played Germany.
The following week saw Germany's match against Holland called off after suspicions terrorists would target the stadium in Hanover, which is approximately an hour's drive from Wolfsburg.
