Sweden's Zlatan Ibrahimovic to retire from international play after Euro 2016
Sweden's Zlatan Ibrahimovic plans to retire from international play after the European Football Championship.
Sweden will face Belgium in group play on Wednesday, and that could be his last game with the squad. Sweden has a loss and a tie in its first two games and likely needs a win to advance.
"To finish on a disappointment, never, because I'm very proud to be captain of Sweden and what I achieved. So I want to take this moment and thank all the supporters, because they make it possible for me to achieve what I have achieved," he said Tuesday. "For me disappointment doesn't exist, only proudness and grateful and very thankful."
Ibrahimovic, 34, also has made plenty of headlines recently with reports that he will join Manchester United after the completion of Euro 2016. The forward joined Paris Saint-Germain in July 2012 and also has played for AC Milan, Barcelona, Inter Milan, Juventus, Ajax and Malmo.
He is Sweden's all-time leading scorer with 62 goals in international play, and he set a single-season record for PSG by scoring 38 goals last season.
