Swiss agree to extradite former FIFA VP Webb's assistant to US
BERN, Switzerland --
Switzerland's justice ministry has granted an American request to extradite a former assistant to CONCACAF President Jeffrey Webb in the FIFA bribery case.
Costas Takkas, the former general secretary of the Cayman Islands Football Association, was among seven officials arrested on May 27 in a dawn raid at a luxury hotel in Zurich, two days before the FIFA presidential election.
Takkas is accused of accepting bribes in exchange for awarding marketing contracts.
The Swiss ministry says ''Takkas massively influenced the competitive situation and distorted the market for media rights in connection with the World Cup qualifying matches.''
The Briton can appeal the extradition order at Switzerland's federal criminal court within 30 days.
Webb was also indicted by the U.S. and he is already there after agreeing to be extradited.
