There is a new youngster on the scene that American soccer pundits can start hyping. United States national team striker Sydney Leroux gave birth on Saturday to her first child with her husband, Sporting Kansas City striker Dom Dwyer.

Welcome to the world, baby Cassius:

Leroux tweeted the baby's photo and added, "Welcome home, Cassius Cruz Dwyer. You are the best thing your parents ever did." Aww.

Dwyer acknowledged the rapidly-approaching arrival in a goal celebration on Friday, stuffing a soccer ball under his shirt and kissing his wedding band, during a Sporting Kansas City draw to the Houston Dynamo:

Leroux took time off from the U.S. women's national team and FC Kansas City in the National Women's Soccer League for the pregnancy. Plans for a return to either team are unclear, but FC Kansas City, the reigning NWSL champions, have already been eliminated from the playoffs with three weeks left in the regular season and could use a striker like her next year. But family comes first.

No pressure on the kid, of course, but his parents are two great strikers in American soccer and, well, the U.S. men's national team could probably use a little help. Cassius, however, will be eligible for the USA, England and Canada should he decide to take after his parents.
