Ticket prices for the opening match of Orlando City Stadium are touching $1,000
Think Orlando City and the opening of their brand new stadium is a big deal? Just take a look at the secondary market on the morning of the match.
Tickets to the first match at Orlando City Stadium are being priced as high as $1,000 each on the club's official ticket resale site.
It's not just the high end seats that are going for big money. It will cost $73 just to get into the stadium.
And all these ticket prices are before fees. Toss those in and your very expensive ticket just got much more expensive.
Orlando City are taking on New York City FC in the match so the appeal of seeing the likes of David Villa helps boost that ticket price, but this has less to do with NYCFC and more to do with Orlando City and the new stadium.
The club, just two years old, has become an institution in central Florida. They drew huge crowds to Camping World Stadium, where they played the last two years, and pushed the club to redesign their stadium so it could hold 25,5000, instead of the original 18,000-seat plan. Toss in the excitement of seeing a brand new venue, one that has been built with steep stands, a 3,000-seat standing supporters section and a handful of other quirks that will make for an incredible atmosphere, and it's not hard to see why fans will shell out huge sums of money to see the first match there.
