Top Arsenal managerial target prefers other post to Gunners vacancy

Eddie Howe would snub Arsenal for England

Many Arsenal fans are convinced that Eddie Howe is destined to take over for Arsene Wenger to lead the Gunners. It seems the England job might complicate their succession plans.

Howe admitted yesterday that the ability to manage his country would be “the ultimate job” for him. He quickly backed that up assuring Bournemouth supporters that his current club has all of his attention at the moment.

Fortunately for Arsenal, the chances of their job being open at the same time the England post is vacant are pretty slim. It’s logical to think that Sam Allardyce will be able to hold on to his nation’s post for at least another couple of years. The real question is when the Gunners job might finally open up.

Wenger is a virtual certainty to remain in the job for at least another 18 months. After that, it’s anyone’s guess when he might choose to call it quits. And make no mistake Arsenal fans, he’s earned the right to retire on his own terms, when he sees fit.

Missing out on Howe might not be the worst thing that could happen to the club either. He’s certainly a promising, up and coming manager, but he isn’t the most experienced candidate they could secure. If I were an Arsenal fan, I’d want to see my club take a run at more accomplished targets like Diego Simeone before offering the job to Howe.

All Howe’s recent comments really prove, is that he’d be willing to listen if Arsenal, England, or any number of other clubs/countries chose to call him. He may fancy life at Bournemouth at the moment, but his future almost certainly will lie with bigger jobs.
