Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino is the Premier League's best manager

Tottenham wouldn’t trade Mauricio Pochettino for any other Premier League manager

It seems that the entire football world is consumed with the epic managerial showdown between Jose Mourinho and Pep Guardiola this weekend. It’s really rather silly, considering that Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino is really the Premier League’s best manager.

To clarify, I’m talking about the best manager at this exact point in time. Certainly the likes of Mourinho, Guardiola, Jurgen Klopp, and even Arsene Wenger have accomplished much more than Pochettino has to date. With that being said, the Argentine boss puts them all to shame at the current point in time.

Naturally, United, City, Liverpool and Arsenal fans reading this article will vehemently disagree. Allow me to set forth my rational case. While I am clearly biased towards Pochettino as a Spurs fan, I’m writing this piece in the most unbiased way possible.

First, you have to consider the resources available at Tottenham compared to the other clubs in question. Spurs certainly aren’t financially destitute, but they lack the transfer war chest of other top Premier League clubs. That simply means that Pochettino is doing more, with less in comparison to those other top managers.

Who would have thought Harry Kane and Dele Alli would be the dominant attacking duo for a club capable of winning a Premier League title? Before Pochettino arrived at Spurs, Kane was seen as a lumbering backup at best. Alli was still plying his trade at MK Dons. Neither remotely fit the profile of budding young superstars.

Consider also the case of Mousa Dembele. The Belgian is now widely viewed as Tottenham’s most important player. Prior to Pochettino’s arrival, he was almost sold off to Stoke. No offense to the Potters, but that wouldn’t have been viewed as a positive step in the midfielder’s career.

Pochettino’s player development success stories go on and on. Danny Rose has seized a place as England’s starting left back. Erik Lamela has gone from 30 million pound transfer flop to one of the first names on the Spurs team sheet. Suffice it to say, he can turn relative unknowns into top-notch Premier League players.

That might not even be Pochettino’s most impressive accomplishment at Tottenham though. His real masterpiece is the fact that he’s united a club that’s been plagued with division for decades. For the first time in recent memory, the club’s ownership, manager, and passionate fan base are all on the same page. Perhaps Pochettino should be running for public office instead of managing a football club.

Of course, detractors of Pochettino will correctly point out that he really hasn’t won anything as of yet. I acknowledge that’s an issue, but would respond that he only needs more time. Would you really bet against Spurs winning at least one trophy under his reign?

That would be an exceptionally poor wager. Tottenham have the best manager in the league, and Mauricio Pochettino is just getting started at Spurs.
