Tottenham: Danny Rose Signs New Deal Until 2021

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

Tottenham secures another player on a long-term deal this month.

Danny Rose who has signed a five-year contract extension is the sixth Tottenham player this month (and counting) to commit his future with the North London club.

A Leeds United product, though Rose never played for the first team, the 26-year-old joined Spurs in 2007 going out on loan four times most notably with Sunderland (2012-2013). Upon returning, he has fully established himself as a starter.

Since signing with Spurs nine years ago, Danny Rose has made 126 appearances and has scored nine goals. Last season was Rose’s best campaign as a Spurs player after being named on the 2015-16 PFA Premier League Team of the Year.

To make things even better, Rose was called up to the England senior team earning eight caps while also participating in this past summer’s European Championship.

Rose’s contract extension could see the left-back stay with Tottenham for a total of 14 years, but he is looking further past that. Going as far as to retire as a Spurs player when it’s all said and done.

“Anything can happen in football but right now, I’m so happy,” Danny Rose said (via Spurs’ official site).

“I’m settled here. I’m slowly turning into a southerner! I’ll be here until I’m 31 and at the moment, I couldn’t wish for anything more than to play for Spurs for the rest of my career.”

“Everyone knows that the Club is going in the right direction and I’m over the moon that I’ve earned a new contract that will keep me here until I’m an old man!”

While everything is all good now, that wasn’t the case during the summer of 2007. Danny Rose wasn’t playing regularly and felt a bit homesick — he was 16 back then. Times have changed and now he’s happier with how things are going for him.

“It was hard when I first moved down to Essex and Tottenham, I was going home every chance I could,” Rose added.

“I wasn’t playing regularly and it’s only been the last three or four years where I’ve felt more settled, more part of the Club and part of the team and I’m loads happier.”

“The manager has had a lot to do with that and so has the chairman, to be fair.”

“I’m settled, I love living down south and funnily enough, when I get the chance to go back home to Doncaster, I don’t go back too much now.”

“I would never have thought that when I first moved down here.”

Danny Rose’s form has been at an all-time high lately but unfortunately he has not recovered from a hamstring injury yet, that he picked up during international duty.

Jan Vertonghen and Ben Davies have played in Rose’s absence keeping Tottenham’s backline running smoothly, so all is not lost. Though Danny Rose wants to return as soon as possible which is not surprising.

“It’s just a pain I’m injured at the moment,” Rose continued.

“It was hard listening to the result coming through at Stoke [and not being involved] and hard watching the Champions League game last week as well.”

“The quicker I can get back on the pitch and contribute to the team, the better.”
