Tottenham eyeing the next Erik Lamela
Tottenham have expressed interest in Lucas Alario
Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino may look to add another countryman to his squad next summer. Spurs have expressed preliminary interest in acquiring River Plate attacker Lucas Alario.
Given Pochettino’s heritage and the emergence of Erik Lamela, it shouldn’t surprise anyone that Pochettino would again look to Argentina for attacking talent. Per Marca, Spurs expressed interest in Alario last summer, but he signed a new deal with River Plate.
Fortunately for Tottenham, that new deal included a release clause that initially stands at just 18 million pounds. Even more appetizing, is the fact that the clause drops to just 10.5 million pounds in the last several years of Alario’s new deal.
Alario is a little older than Pochettino’s usual target at 23 years of age. However, he still has significant upside. He’s a relative late bloomer who’s only just earned a call up to the Argentina national team. He still has significant growth potential.
Of course, Spurs aren’t the only Premier League club interested in signing him. Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool were also linked with him last summer. Expect the Reds to return for him this summer as well.
Tottenham would be purchasing Alario as another option for their attack. He plays up top predominantly for River Plate, but also has the ability to thrive out wide. If he ended up at Spurs, he’d likely be ticketed for a spot in Pochettino’s attacking midfield. He’s just the sort of direct, creative attacker that the manager has coveted as of late.
Lucas Alario won’t be a Tottenham target in January, but he is one to keep an eye on next summer. He’s one of many attacking talents Spurs will run their rule over this season.
