Tottenham: Harry Kane Looking to Score 50 More Goals
Tottenham striker Harry Kane reached a big milestone with his 50th Premier League goal.
After Tottenham had a great performance in yesterday’s 4-0 win, Harry Kane notched another big milestone in his career. He would score his 50th Premier League goal.
While Son Heung-Min stole the show and Christian Eriksen deserved plenty of praise for returning to form, Harry Kane managed to solidify himself as one of the best Premier League strikers ever.
According to Premier Soccer Stats, Kane is the 11th fastest player to reach 50 Premier League goals, just ahead of Spurs legend Teddy Sheringham.
It took Harry Kane 90 matches (23 years and 44 days) to reach the 50-goal mark, whereas Sherignham (28 years and 364 days) needed four more games.
Sitting just outside the top 10 of great goalscorers in Premier League history like Andy Cole, Alan Sherear, Ruud van Nistelrooy, Theirry Henry, Ian Wright and Robbie Fowler puts Kane in good company.
To make the 23-year-old’s accomplishment even more special, Harry Kane is the second-youngest to score 50 goals with Robbie Fowler reaching the feat at the age of 20 (and 251 days).
Even with Kane making history, he is already looking forward to the next big milestone — 100 Premier League goals for Spurs.
“A couple of years ago, if someone would have said to me ‘you’ll have 50 Premier League goals for Spurs’ I would have taken that quite happily,” Harry said (via Spurs’ official site).
“It’s a great achievement and makes me even hungrier to get to that next mark.”
“I’ll keep working hard, try to keep scoring and make those landmarks as we go along.”
“I want to score goals for Spurs and the more the better. Fifty in the Premier League is a great achievement and here’s to the next 50, preferably even quicker!”
At Kane’s current pace (he’s scored 20-plus goals the past two seasons), 50 more goals for Spurs wouldn’t be too far-fetched.
The England international has an eye for goal and is generally a slow starter. But it appears that label could change if the past two seasons are an indication.
Since being being named a full-time starter two years ago, Kane wouldn’t score his first goal until November 23rd during the 2014-15 campaign. It should be noted that while Kane’s first goal of that season came on November 2nd, he came on as a substitute.
Last term, it would take seven games until Kane opened his account on September 26th. This time around, only four games have been played with Harry Kane scoring on September 10th.
Who knows how early Kane will score next season, but if he’s able to maintain 20-plus league goals like he has done for two consecutive years, by the middle of the 2018-19 campaign, the 23-year-old should reach the 100-goal milestone very soon.
By then, it should put Harry Kane in very good company to be among only a handful of strikers (25 to be exact) to reach the century mark in the Premier League.
