Tottenham target Martial signs new contract with Monaco

MONACO -- Up-and-coming striker Anthony Martial has extended his contract with Monaco until 2019.
The 19-year-old Martial scored nine goals in 35 league matches this season as Monaco secured Champions League football for the second straight year. Gifted with huge physical qualities and technical skills, Martial is often compared to Thierry Henry and is regarded as one of the brightest young talents in French football.
Martial, who was courted by other European clubs, said "we made a big season, the one to come is exciting too. Hopefully I'll be able to repay the confidence I've been given."

Martial, who joined Monaco from Lyon in 2013, was good enough to relegate veteran forward Dimitar Berbatov to the bench this season.
