USA, Mexico receive equal ticket split for Confederations Cup playoff
CONCACAF will offer tickets to the FIFA Confederations Cup playoff between USA and Mexico to supporters from both countries before offering the remainder to the public through lottery and public sale.
Both countries are slated to receive an equal share of tickets for the one-off match at the Rose Bowl on Oct. 10. U.S. Soccer and the FMF will distribute their portion in targeted sales to their supporters early next month.
U.S. Soccer unveiled plans for a two-tiered sales process on Thursday. Registered members of the U.S. Soccer Supporters Club will receive a chance to purchase up to six tickets before the remainder of the allocation is posted for general sale, according to a release from the federation.
CONCACAF is staging a lottery to offer the seats not allocated to the two federations. The confederation plans to open the registration process on its website on Sept. 9 and then notify winners of their opportunity to purchase up to six tickets by Sept. 18. Any remaining tickets will be offered for public sale at a later date.
This is the first time CONCACAF will hold a playoff to determine the confederation’s representative in the Confederations Cup.
CONCACAF opted to split the Confederations Cup bid in 2017 between the winners of the 2013 and 2015 CONCACAF Gold Cups. USA qualified by winning the tournament two years ago, while Mexico forced the one-off tie by lifting the trophy last month.
