Perry Kitchen has made quite an impact on his Scottish club in short order.

Kitchen, the 24-year-old U.S. men's national team midfielder, was named captain of Heart of Midlothian, where he joined in March after five seasons with D.C. United.

"I’ve been impressed by Perry’s attitude, desire and, of course, his performances from day one," Hearts manager Robbie Neilson said in a team statement. "He’s a natural and leads by example both on and off the park. He’s also a really good player and will inspire those around him to reach the highest standards."

Kitchen started nine of the 10 matches in which he played after signing with the club at the end of last season, and he's played in eight matches this season, including three in the UEFA Europa League qualifying rounds.

Kitchen, who went unused as a substitute during Copa America Centenario, has four caps with the U.S.
