USMNT advance in World Cup qualifying with 4-0 win over Trinidad and Tobago

The United States have booked their spot in the final round of 2018 World Cup qualifying known. This was all but a formality, with it nearly impossible for them to miss out heading into Tuesday's final day of games in the semifinal round, but a 4-0 win over Trinidad & Tobago made it official.

Now the U.S. will turn their attention to the Hex, which begins on November 11 against rivals Mexico at home. The match will be played in Columbus, Ohio, where the Americans have hosted Mexico in each of their last four home World Cup qualifiers and won 2-0 each time.

Jozy Altidore led the way in the win over Trinidad & Tobago. The striker scored a pair of goals for the U.S., but he got plenty of help. Sacha Kljestan and Paul Arriola also scored, while Christian Pulisic continued to give fans a reason to think he could be a superstar as the 17-year-old put in a Man of the Match performance in his first World Cup qualifying start.

The U.S. have qualified for each of the seven World Cups (one of which they got into automatically as host) and they are one of the powerhouses in CONCACAF so it is no surprise to see them move on to the final round of qualifying. In fact, it would have been an absolute shock had they not. Getting this far was nearly a given, but the Hex will provide them a much stiffer test. The Americans are one step closer to the 2018 World Cup, but now their toughest challenge is upon them.
