USMNT to debut new white kit in World Cup, Olympic qualifying Tuesday night
The United States will debut their new white kits when they take on Guatemala in a vital World Cup qualifier on Tuesday night. They will then show them off again when the U-23 team dons the white shirts for their Olympic qualifier later in the evening.
The white kit is the more traditional of the U.S. kits. It is white with blue sleeves. It follows the same template that Nike is using with some of their other national teams, including England and France.
Fans didn't seem to take to the new white kit initially. The outrage on social media wasn't especially pointed, but few seemed to be too excited by them. Seeing them on the pitch for the first time will give the uniforms a whole new look, though. And fans will surely chime in with their thoughts.
U.S. Soccer and Nike unveiled new kits earlier this year to go with the new crest that the federation had created. The kits would be worn by the U.S. men through the rest of World Cup qualifying and this summer's Copa America Centenario, while the women will don them at this summer's Olympics.
The U.S. men and U-23's wore the new black kit last Friday when they played in World Cup and Olympic qualifiers. That kit, with one red sleeve and one black sleeve, was met with a fair bit of derision, in part because it was a departure from the nation's colors. And game results with the black kits were mixed, with the U-23's getting a solid draw in Colombia and the senior team losing in embarrassing fashion, so any talk about them being good or bad luck is yet to be determined.
