Watch all 4 of Tuesday's amazing late Champions League goals
Tuesday was a day for late-match heroics. Half of the day's Champions League matches were decided in the final 10 minutes as heavy favorites mounted comebacks to either win the match or nab an all-important point.
Marek Hamsik got things going early on with his brilliant 25-yard strike in the 82nd minute to rescue a point for Napoli. Without the draw, Napoli would be in third place and on the outside looking in at a spot in the knockout stages. And that was the earliest, least important of Tuesday's incredible late goals.
Antoine Griezmann put on the best individual show of the day, scoring an amazing opener by twisting and hitting the ball on the volley when he had no business scoring. But that goal was only good enough for a draw against lowly Rostov. So he scored again in stoppage time.
Mesut Ozil's effort was the best of the day, though.
It's an obviously incredible goal, but the best part is how unnecessary the whole thing is. He could have dribbled around the goalkeeper, but no, he chose to chip him. And he could've shot, but he wanted to fake out a defender. And then he did it again. It was an exercise in embarrassing the opposition for no other reason than Ozil could.
Bravo.
On any other day, that would be the runaway winner for Goal of the Day and certainly Late Goal of the Day. But he had some competition on Tuesday thanks to Thomas Meunier.
So that's a full day of late-game winners. And amazing ones at that. You had a hell of a day, Champions League.
