Watch: Atletico Nacional fans pay tribute to Chapecoense
Atletico Nacional fans honored the Chapecoense team that would have been their opponent in the Copa Sudamericana final on Wednesday night.
The majority of Chapecoense players and staffers — more than 70 people — were killed in a tragic plane crash on Monday night, on their way to play in the highly-anticipated game set for Wednesday. The Colombian club, who have asked the South American Football Federation that their Brazilian opponents be awarded the trophy posthumously, invited fans to their stadium to pay tribute.

It was discovered Wednesday via an audio recording of the pilot requesting permission to land that Chapecoense’s charter plane ran out of fuel mid-flight, leading to the crash. The plane slammed into the mountainside outside Medellín, home to Atletico Nacional.
