Watch Carlos Blanco belt a long-range stunner against Melbourne Victory

Juventus lost to Melbourne Victory in a penalty shootout in the International Champions Cup on Saturday, which is … not great.

Juve have won five straight scudettos, while Melbourne Victory finished sixth in the A-League last season. So, yeah, not exactly great (so it's a meaningless friendly, shhh). But do you know what is great? Long-range golazos are great.

That’s what Juventus youngster Carlos Blanco provided to open the scoring in the second half. Melbourne Victory’s Lawrence Thomas hoped to get his team out on the break with a deep kick from his own box, but instead the ball fell to Blanco. With little pressure on him, and with Thomas off his line following the kick, the 20-year-old Blanco gave the ball a smack … and what a smack it was.

You're not supposed to do that! Especially when you're a center back that can't even legally drink in the United States. But Blanco did, and we're all better for having watched him do it.

To the keeper's credit, he did redeem himself when given the opportunity. Melbourne Victory claimed an equalizer later in the match, and eventually the contest went to penalties. Thomas made the critical save to give his side the 4-3 edge on pens. Given that it’s preseason, Juventus were playing with a largely reserve side in the tie. Nevertheless, Melbourne Victory can put a feather in their cap for earning the win and bouncing back from Blanco’s beauty.
