It took just eight minutes for Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez to tie Mexico's all-time goal-scoring record, putting Mexico up 1-0 against Costa Rica in their World Cup qualifier at the Azteca on Friday evening.
Despite Costa Rica's attempts to prevent Mexico getting in behind their back three, Chicharito did just that, running onto Carlos Vela's beautiful rolled pass. His through ball sliced through Los Ticos' defense, and Chicharito chipped his finish beautifully over Keylor Navas to make it 46 goals for the national team.
Interestingly enough, Chicharito scores his 46th goal in his 89th match for Mexico, the exact number of caps Borgetti retired with. Now, Chicharito is just one goal away from setting the new record.
