Watch Moussa Dembele's historic hat trick for Celtic in the Old Firm Derby

In the first Old Firm Derby in the Scottish top flight in four years, Celtic midfielder Moussa Dembele did something that hadn’t been done in 50 years.

Brendan Rodgers’ first signing as Celtic manager became the first player to score a hat trick in the Glasgow derby since Harry Hood did it in the League Cup in 1973, and the first to do so in a Premier League match since Stevie Chalmers back in 1966.

Dembele, not to be confused with Tottenham’s Belgian midfielder by the same name, got the scoring underway with a simple header off a corner kick early in the first half.

Dembele then doubled Celtic’s lead after making Rangers defender Philippe Senderos slide into oblivion and coolly finishing with the outside of the right boot.

The 20-year-old French youth international, who Rodgers signed from Fulham this summer, then sealed his hat trick in the second half to complete an incredible derby debut.

It was Dembele’s first career hat trick and it came in the most important fixture of the season for his new employers. Not a bad way to get yourself in the good graces of the Celtic faithful.
