Watch Thomas Delaney stake his claim for Champions League goal of the season
We're only on the second matchday of group play and we've got an early leader in the clubhouse for Champions League goal of the season. And no, it's not from Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Robert Lewandowski or any of the other usual suspects. In fact, it comes from Tuesday's match between Copenhagen and Club Brugge, off the foot of midfielder Thomas Delaney.
That is a shot so dipped in sweetness that it should come with a shot of insulin or a warning from the U.S. Surgeon General. Delaney had all the time in the world to line it up, and even stutter-stepped to get the positioning right. He certainly stuck the landing.
All Copenhagen manager Ståle Solbakken could do was laugh on the sideline, as the belted goal surely put a smile on a lot of folks' faces. Well ... except for on Club Brugge goalkeeper Ludovic Butelle's.
