Wayne Rooney left out of Europa League squad against Feyenoord
Manchester United have revealed the squad for their first Europa League match, which doesn’t include Wayne Rooney.
Some key figures are being left out of Manchester United’s squad for tomorrow’s match against Feyenoord. The most notable absentee is Captain Wayne Rooney.
Jose Mourinho explained at a press conference that he wants the skipper to rest ahead of the club’s next Premier League match. The Red Devils will be traveling to play Watford on Sunday. You can listen to Mourinho’s full comments in the tweet below.

Rooney isn’t the only player to be left out by the new manager. Jesse Lingard is also staying home, but his exclusion shouldn’t come as a surprise. Lingard didn’t impress in his first start of the season last weekend against rivals Manchester City.
Luke Shaw, Antonio Valencia and Henrikh Mkhitaryan are the other key players not going to Rotterdam. The Mirror states Shaw has a tight hamstring, and Mkhitaryan is dealing with a leg injury. Valencia could be getting some extra rest after all the traveling he did during the international break.
Considering whose staying home, United fans are going to see a different back-four for the match. Matteo Darmian and Timothy Fosu-Mensah will be in the squad, as well as Chris Smalling. Fans could also see Marcus Rashford get his first start of the season.
It is going to be interesting to see who gets the nod in Mourinho’s first competitive European match as United’s manager. It is also a chance for the club to bounce back after suffering their first defeat over the weekend.
