United States international striker Aron Johannsson is on his way to the Bundesliga.

AZ Alkmaar agreed to send the 24-year-old to German side Werder Bremen for a fee reportedly worth 5 million euros ($5.5M).

"Werder Bremen confirmed their interest on Saturday evening and since then it went very quick," AZ technical director Earnie Stewart told the club's website. "They really wanted to have Aron and they showed that in everything. This is a very good deal for AZ and also for Aron. I hope he'll succeed at Werder Bremen."

Bremen had been in the market for a striker to replace top scorer Franco Di Santo, who has moved to Schalke. According to reports out of Germany, Werder Bremen sporting director Rouven Schröder attended the June U.S. friendly against Germany in Cologne, where Johannsson started and played 74 minutes.

Johannsson scored 34 goals in 84 appearance for AZ since joining the club in 2013.
