West Brom: No good decision involves Marouane Chamakh

West Brom are apparently still not done with their summer business, and may be looking to bolster their striking corps with Marouane Chamakh. Bad idea.

Apparently Tony Pulis is not very happy that the summer transfer window has closed because he is still doing some shopping. Despite shrewdly landing Nacer Chadli, the West Brom boss has been allowing numerous free agents to trial for the Baggies, but you have to keep in mind that these guys are free agents for a reason.

Pulis also landed Nyom and Hal Robson-Kanu, but he welcomed Momo Sissoko and Marouane Chamakh on a trial as well.

Sissoko was once at the center of some major moves, as he went from Liverpool to Juventus to PSG all the way to China, where he has since found his way into the free agent pool.

Then there is Marouane Chamakh.

There is one thing to be said about a guy that is 32 and has never really been given a lengthy look at a big role in a club, but the Moroccan international cannot make that claim. Arsene Wenger is the crowned king of faith and giving guys a chance and that was true with Chamakh.

The striker was given every chance to make it at Arsenal but he was never up to scratch.

Chamakh then landed at a desperate Crystal Palace side who just needed a striker and he made a whole 42 starts for them across two season, but could only muster seven goals. It’s hard to blame anything but Chamakh, as Crystial Palace had a good deal of quality on that side, they just needed some finishing ability.

Chamakh played two full seasons and was never able to develop any sort of traction at the front of the formation and has since found his way into the free agents pool.

West Brom do not want him. No good decision begins with signing Marouane Chamakh. Salomon Rondon offers much more upside, as he scored nine goals last year with a Baggies team that was completely devoid of an offensive presence.

If it’s variety that West Brom is looking for, best not to go for Chamakh either. He is the same type of striker as Rondon but with no history of proven goal scoring. They’d be much better off just hanging with Berahino until the winter transfer when they can land an actual striker that has some sort of history.
