Why Moussa Sissoko Will Be a Perfect Fit for Tottenham
Lazy. No ambition. Gives up. No determination. These are all statements that Premier League fans, more specifically, Newcastle fans, have used to describe Tottenham’s newest signing Moussa Sissoko.
The 27-year-old Frenchman was a part of a transfer deadline day deal on August 31st that saw him move from Newcastle to Tottenham for a fee around £30million. Sissoko snubbed Everton in hopes of a move to north London, and he got what he wanted.
While it’s easy to say that Spurs overpaid for Sissoko, there was a reason they made the move. Manager Mauricio Pochettino showed Daniel Levy the man he wanted and Levy provided him with the player, so it’s clear Tottenham has a plan in store for Sissoko this season.
Although Sissoko has shown his lack of effort at times, it’s clear to see that he is a very talented player. A perfect example was during the European Championship this past summer, he was arguably the best player for France throughout the tournament.
His attitude and body language is something that can easily be fixed. The question marks about Sissoko have never been about his talent, but rather his effort and attitude during times of adversity.
If anybody can revive Moussa Sissoko, it’s Mauricio Pochettino. In a system like Pochettino’s, stamina and endurance is required and Sissoko has a lot of both. He’s a high motor guy, who can be a world beater when he has his head on straight.

Some have argued that Sissoko performs a lot better when he is surrounded with more talented players. Evidence of that statement is what happened during the summer at the Euros, as previously mentioned. Being around talented players during France’s run helped Sissoko up his performance in a huge way.
No disrespect to Newcastle, but Spurs’ squad is much better than that of Newcastle’s at the moment, so if that theory is indeed true, Daniel Levy will be looked upon as a genius for snatching him from under Everton’s nose late on Deadline Day.
Érik Lamela will most likely be returning to training with Tottenham late, creating an opening for Sissoko. He appears set to make his debut for Tottenham on Saturday as they travel to the Bet365 Stadium to take on Stoke City. The Argentine was named in his country’s starting XI when they clashed with Venezuela on Tuesday evening.
Reports have come out saying Lamela won’t return to London until Thursday and won’t being training with the squad until Friday. Saturday’s match will be the first time Sissoko gets to impress his new manager and fans.
Will Moussa Sissoko prove that he was worth the huge amount of money or will he flop?
