Wolfsburg chief brands ex-Arsenal striker Bendtner a failure

Wolfsburg director of sport Klaus Allofs has branded Nicklas Bendtner a failure, saying he has been unable to deliver on the expectations when he joined the club from Arsenal 18 months ago.

The Dane penned a three-year contract with the Wolves after Arsenal had sent him out on a series of loan spells with Birmingham, Sunderland and Juventus.

He failed to make a lasting impression at any of his previous clubs and Allofs feels the signs are not good at his club either.

"He's a player with extraordinary ability, but he never manages to go beyond this point," Allofs told Sport1 television.

"At the moment, it doesn't look like he can help us. The experiment can be seen as a failure."

Bendtner has started only four times in the Bundesliga this season, while he has been left out of the squad for Wolfsburg's last three matches.

However, Allofs does not see Andre Schurrle's time at the club in such a negative light.

He has also struggled to make a name for himself since arriving from Chelsea just over a year ago, but Allofs is expecting him to make the grade eventually.

"Watching him in training, you can see the extraordinary ability he has and he's going to show this at Wolfsburg too," Allofs said.

"We've got faith in him being able to help us in the long term."

Meanwhile, defender Naldo is not going to help Wolfsburg in the near future or potentially at all again this season after he dislocated his shoulder in Saturday's 2-0 defeat to Bayern Munich.

"We all wish him a speedy recovery, although it may be the case that he misses the rest of the season," said Wolfsburg coach Dieter Hecking on his club's website.

"Therefore, Robin Knoche and Dante, who combined so well in Ghent, are going to have to show how well they can play together."
