Zlatan Ibrahimovic to miss Ligue 1 season opener with a right knee injury

Zlatan Ibrahimovic will miss Paris St Germain's opening game of the Ligue 1 season with a knee injury. The Sweden striker played the full 90 minutes in Saturday's 2-0 win over Lyon in the Trophee des Champions but suffered ligament damage, the club have revealed.

Ibrahimovic worked separately from the team on their return to training on Tuesday and a club statement read: "Zlatan Ibrahimovic has had scans which have revealed a sprain of the internal lateral ligament of his right knee. "The striker will therefore be absent for Friday's league match at Lille."

August 16's home game against newly-promoted Gazelec Ajaccio is set to be Ibrahimovic's first chance for a league outing this season. In his absence, Edinson Cavani - a goalscorer against OL in Montreal - and Lucas Moura would feature in coach Laurent Blanc's three-pronged attack. Fellow South Americans Javier Pastore and Ezequiel Lavezzi are still seeking match-fitness, while youngster Jean-Kevin Augustin has enjoyed a prolific pre-season.

Strict controls will govern the movement of fans in Lille, with an order from the prefecture of Nord-Pas-de-Calais blocking either PSG or Lille fans without tickets from congregating around the Stade Pierre Mauroy.
