Two-time Wimbledon champion Rafael Nadal lost in straight sets to Steve Darcis of Belgium in the first round of the grass-court tournament on Monday.
Nadal, who was bidding to win his 13th Grand Slam title after winning the French Open for a record eighth time, had never lost in the first round in a Grand Slam tournament.
In one of Wimbledon's greatest upsets, Darcis ended Nadal's 22-match winning streak with a 7-6 (4), 7-6 (8), 6-4 victory.
Nadal looked hampered in his moves throughout the match. He was sidelined for about seven months with a left knee injury following his surprise loss in the second round at Wimbledon last year.
