Bec Rawlings explains why she missed weight ahead of UFC Fight Night 104
Bec Rawlings gave her side of the story surrounding her weight cut ahead of her fight against Tecia Torres at UFC Fight Night 104 in Houston
All but one of the fighters on the upcoming UFC Fight Night 104 card on Saturday in Houston made weight, with the exception being UFC strawweight Bec Rawlings.
Rawlings stepped on the scale at 117.5 pounds — 1.5 pounds over the 116-pound limit for a non-title fight in the weight class.
Although she missed weight, her opponent, Tecia Torres, accepted the bout. As a result, Rawlings was fined 20 percent of her fight purse, which is given to Torres.
Taking to her Facebook page, Rawlings gave her side of the story surrounding her weight cut.
Earlier this year I was finally diagnosed with Secondary Hypothyroidism after struggling with my weight & energy for so long & to add to that my hormones, cortisol & everything that fires this beast of a body has taken a hit from these nasty weight cuts to 115.. today I pushed my body to it’s absolute limits to try hit 116 & my body failed me.. I know people don’t exactly know what cutting weight entales & are quick to judge & talk shit but I know I did everything in my power to make weight today. I’ve been calling for 125 for this reason, women’s bodies are not designed to cut extreme amounts of weight & I am not the only UFC fighter with these issues, we need more divisions.
I’m still fighting, Tecia & her team ATT were very understanding & knew I couldn’t cut anymore & just want a good fight tomorrow night which we will give.
Can’t wait to fight & put on a show for the Houston Fans & everyone tuning in to see me fight
In terms of competition, Rawlings (7-5), a former Invicta FC title contender, will be looking to get back into the win column after suffering a violent second round knockout to Paige VanZant at UFC on FOX 21 in August. This setback snapped her two-fight win streak, which included a decision over Seo Hee Ham and first round submission over Lisa Ellis.
Her opponent Torres (7-1), an American Top Team product, will be also be looking to get back into the win column after dropping a decision to Rose Namajunas in April.
UFC Fight Night 104 will go down at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas. A featherweight bout between Dennis Bermudez and former title challenger Chan Sung Jung will serve as the event headliner.
