Cat Zingano eyes September return, possibly against Amanda Nunes

Cat Zingano's long road back from a devastating year both personally and professionally will finally end later this year when the No. 1 ranked contender in the women's division returns to action.

Following her lone appearance in the UFC where she TKO'd Miesha Tate, Zingano has been on the sidelines dealing with an injured knee, which required reconstructive surgery as well as the loss of her husband who passed away earlier this year.

Now with her body back to full health, Zingano is eyeing a return to the Octagon in September according to a report via UFC Tonight.

While nothing is set in stone, current discussions have Zingano possibly facing off against Brazilian Amanda Nunes in her return to the cage, but the fight is far from a done deal.

Right now, preliminary discussions appear to be underway but the most important factor is Zingano is finally ready to return.

After the win over Tate, Zingano was expected to coach opposite Ronda Rousey on The Ultimate Fighter season 18, but the knee injury kept her from doing the show as well as earning her title shot.

The division has since moved on with Alexis Davis already poised to face Rousey in July with the title on the line while Zingano looks to get back on track with a potential fight in September.

Zingano is currently 8-0 in her career and would likely vault back to the front of the line with a win in her return bout.  Meanwhile, Nunes has gone 2-0 since coming to the UFC with both victories coming by way of TKO.
