Dana White: Nick Diaz ready to fight again

Published Nov. 15, 2016 2:11 p.m. ET

Nick Diaz is ready to resume his career.

That's according to UFC president Dana White, who says Diaz is ready to fight after serving an 18-month suspension after testing positive for marijuana following his last bout with Anderson Silva in 2015.

Diaz was originally suspended for five years by the Nevada State Athletic Commission, but through an appeals process, the sentenced was reduced to 18 months.

That suspension expired over the summer and now Diaz is ready to get back into the Octagon in the near future.

"Nick wants to fight. Nick's ready to go again," White told FOX Sports recently. "I've got to figure that out."

Nevada State Athletic Commission executive director Bob Bennett confirmed with FOX Sports on Monday that Diaz has still not paid the $75,000 remaining from his fine owed to the state. Until then, Diaz remains on suspension from Nevada.

Once that fine is paid, Diaz will be eligible to return to action and from the sound of things, the UFC is already looking into booking his next bout.

Diaz is still one of the most relevant fighters on the entire UFC roster and even welterweight champion Tyron Woodley asked for a fight with him after winning the belt back in July. In other words, Diaz will be a hot commodity whenever the UFC starts looking for his next opponent.
