Daniel Cormier's tooth pulled after Henderson fight, also has injured LCL
Daniel Cormier didn't need a doctor after his fight with Dan Henderson. But he did require a dentist.
The only damage Cormier took in his dominant, third-round submission win over Henderson on Saturday at UFC 173 was an injury to his tooth, reports UFC Tonight's Ariel Helwani. The light heavyweight contender had to have it pulled Monday and was in a lot of pain. He believes he injured it when he slammed Henderson in emphatic fashion in the third round.
Cormier, 35, also has some other medical issues he has to take care of. He seriously injured his LCL 10 days before the fight and actually feared he might have to pull out, but decided to fight through it instead. Cormier will go to a doctor soon to get it scoped.
Also, his ACL has been bothering him for quite some time and Cormier believes he could require surgery.
Cormier (15-0) earned a title shot with the win over Henderson and prefers to not fight again before getting the winner of the bout between champion Jon Jones and Alexander Gustafsson. UFC president Dana White would rather him fight one more time, since Jones or Gustafsson probably won't be ready to go until early 2015.
Jones-Gustafsson II is being targeted for Aug. 30 in Las Vegas, though Jones has not yet officially signed on.
