Kelvin Gastelum has suspension lifted, cleared to fight at UFC 206
Kelvin Gastelum is free to fight again.
The former "Ultimate Fighter" winner had received a six-month suspension from the New York State Athletic Commission after failing to appear at the weigh-ins for his scheduled fight against Donald "Cowboy" Cerrone.
Now that suspension has been lifted after Gastelum agreed to pay a fine so he could return to action at UFC 206 in a middleweight bout against Tim Kennedy.
"The disciplinary action against Kelvin Gastelum has been settled prior to hearing for the payment of a $2,000 fine. The matter is now closed," New York State Athletic Commission representatives confirmed when speaking to FOX Sports.
Gastelum missed weight for his fight with Cerrone at UFC 205, which caused the bout to be cancelled and pulled from the card that took place at Madison Square Garden in New York.
Because Gastelum knew he wasn't going to make weight and the fight was going to get pulled, he didn't bother stepping on the scale or showing up at the official weigh-ins.
The New York Commission decided to suspend him six months for the infraction but now that he's paid the fine, the sanction against Gastelum has been lifted.
Now Gastelum will be able to return to action Dec. 10, where he faces Kennedy in a middleweight bout after UFC president Dana White declared that he's no longer allowed to fight at 170 pounds following the weight-cutting disaster at UFC 205.
