Quinton 'Rampage' Jackson on hold with UFC while he fights injunction in court
Quinton 'Rampage' Jackson will head back into court on June 12 to hopefully find some resolution to the injunction filed against him by Bellator Fighting Championships. Until then, the UFC has put him on ice before booking his next bout.
Jackson returned to the UFC in April and picked up a unanimous decision win over Fabio Maldonado, but the fight was only allowed to happen at the 11th hour after an appellate court in New Jersey overruled a temporary injunction granted for Bellator to stop the veteran light heavyweight from competing in the UFC.
Bellator filed suit against Jackson after he voided his contract with the promotion and opted to sign with the UFC instead. The Viacom owned promotion said that Jackson was still under contract and they filed the injunction to stop him from competing under the UFC banner.
According to a report from Ariel Helwani on UFC Tonight via sources close to the situation, Jackson's team and lawyers were granted a June 12 hearing before Judge Karen Suter about dissolving the remainder of the injunction filed against him by Bellator.
Judge Suter originally granted a temporary injunction against Jackson before an appeal was approved by a different court.
While Jackson deals with his various legal entanglements, the UFC has decided not to book his next fight, instead opting to see how this court case plays out first.
If Judge Suter rules in favor of Jackson and dissolves the injunction, then the former UFC champion plans to move forward with his breech of contract suit that would then go to trial.
Until at least his June 12 court hearing, Jackson remains in limbo as far as his next fight in the UFC.
