Roy Nelson vs. Mark Hunt set for UFC Fight Night in Japan
Get ready for a slugfest.
Two of the hardest hitters in the heavyweight division are set to square off this September as Roy Nelson is expected to face Mark Hunt at an upcoming UFC Fight Night event in Japan.
The card is currently scheduled for September 20 at the Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan with the show likely airing on the UFC's digital network, Fight Pass.
While the rumored fight has been talked about for weeks, the first official confirmation comes courtesy of MMAFighting.com.
Nelson (20-9) will get back in action after one of the biggest wins of his career back in April when he knocked out former UFC and PRIDE champion Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira in the first round of their fight in Abu Dhabi. The win snapped a two fight skid for Nelson, who now looks to pick up his second win in a row when he returns in September.
As for Hunt (9-8-1), he will fight Nelson after one of the most epic fights in heavyweight history during his last bout against Antonio 'Bigfoot' Silva from December 2013 in Australia. Hunt and Silva went after each other for 25 minutes and when the bout was over, the fight was so close it was scored a draw.
Regardless of the outcome, the fight remains one of the best heavyweight tilts in MMA history.
Now Hunt will face Nelson with both being well known for having some of the most powerful punches in the division, not to mention an incredible ability to absorb punishment. In other words, this will be a 'fight of the night' candidate the moment these two step into the Octagon together.
UPDATE: The fight between Hunt and Nelson is now official per UFC president Dana White, who confirmed the bout on Twitter.
