Stipe Miocic, Alistair Overeem official; CM Punk makes weight for UFC 203 debut

Published Nov. 15, 2016 2:13 p.m. ET

The heavyweight main event for UFC 203 is official as both champ Stipe Miocic and challenger Alistair Overeem hit the scale on Friday to make weight, although it didn't go down without a little bit of drama.

Fighters were allowed to weigh in between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. on Friday morning, but Overeem showed up a few minutes past the cutoff and Ohio Athletic Commission executive director Bernie Profato fined the heavyweight $500 for the infraction.

Once he arrived, Overeem made weight at 248.5 pounds.

Overeem argued the fine after he arrived just a couple of minutes past the deadline, but the Ohio commission was steadfast on the penalty for being late.

Miocic came in at 246 pounds as he prepares to defend his title for the first time after knocking out Fabricio Werdum in May to win the belt.

Miocic will now have the opportunity to fight in front of his hometown fans with Cleveland hosting a UFC card for the first time ever this weekend.

For all the questions former WWE superstar CM Punk had to answer about his first weigh cut, he seemed to breeze through the process with no problems at all.

Punk had stated in the lead up to his UFC debut that he had never done a weight cut before and didn't do a practice cut ahead of the fight taking place at UFC 203. He certainly didn't show any ill effects of a tough weight cut as he smiled while stepping onto the scale on Friday.

Punk hit the mark at 170-pounds, which means he didn't even need the one pound allowance for a non-title bout at welterweight.

Just after Punk weighed in, his opponent Mickey Gall came in at 170.5 pounds, making their fight official for Saturday night.

Newcomer Michael McBride stepped up on short notice to face Nik Lentz after his original opponent Mairbek Taisumov was forced off the card, but he couldn't make weight for the lightweight bout airing live on FS1.

McBride came in at 158 pounds — two pounds over the lightweight limit for a non-title fight — and Ohio Athletic Commission executive director Bernie Profato confirmed that he would be fined 20-percent of his purse, which is then given directly to his opponent.

Fighters flooded in starting at 9 a.m. as soon as the weigh-ins began with a lot of eager athletes ready to hit the scale before rehydrating ahead of Saturday's fights.

All of the competitors will still face off at the weigh-in show in Cleveland starting at 6 p.m. ET from the Quicken Loans Arena and airing live on FS1.
