UFC fighter Jordan Mein's father arrested on sexual battery charges in Tulsa
James Lee Mein, father of UFC Fight Night in Tulsa co-main event fighter Jordan Mein, was arrested by Tulsa police on Friday in connection with an alleged sexual assault committed at the event's host hotel this week.
A police report was made public following the arrest that stated Mein was placed into custody at 3:30 p.m. local time on Friday on allegations of sexual battery. He was released after midnight the same night on $2000 bond.
Following Mein's arrest and release, UFC officials released a statement to FOX Sports confirming the situation while also stating that he would be barred from Saturday night's event if he was released from jail.
"We were made aware that James Lee Mein, father of UFC competitor Jordan Mein, was arrested yesterday on allegations of felony sexual assault," the statement read. "Mr. Mein is accused of sexually assaulting a housekeeper at the UFC's host hotel in Tulsa, Okla. The UFC finds the allegations against Mr. Mein deplorable and we fully support local law enforcement in its investigation. The UFC is also prohibiting Mr. Mein from attending tonight's event should he post bail. Jordan Mein will remain on tonight's card."
James Lee Mein is also a fighter, possessing a 6-13 record and at 47 years of age actually fought as recently as February 2014. He was taken into custody at the hotel by authorities before being booked and later released by the Tulsa police departement.
It's obviously upsetting news concerning an alleged sexual assault, not to mention the kind of mental strain it will play on Mein as he enters his co-main event bout on Saturday night against veteran fighter Mike Pyle. Mein's father is typically in his son's corner, but he will not be allowed to attend the event tonight following his arrest in Oklahoma.
