UFC Houston Results: Felice Herrig Hands Alexa Grasso Her First Career Loss
Felice Herrig defeated Alexa Grasso by unanimous decision at UFC Houston, pulling away with a big win and handing Grasso her first career MMA loss.
After being off for almost seven months, Felice Herrig returned to the UFC strong with a big win over Alexa Grasso. Herrig earned the win by unanimous decision with two judges scoring the bout 29-28 and one judge scoring it 30-27.
The Houston crowd got behind Grasso to star the fight, cheering for her. However, it may have been the only highlight for Grasso.
Grasso went for a double-kick as both she and Herrig slipped. Grasso grabbed her foot, going for a heel hook. But Herrig prevented Grasso from locking the submission and brought the fight back on the feet.

Although Grasso connected on some shots, Herrig was landing with combinations. The round ended with both fighters trading head punches, as the horn broke up the action and sent it into the second round.
Herrig continued to send combinations to Grasso. Herrig’s right hand was the MVP of the round. She began the round by landing a strong right jab. She had a pair of right hooks to Grasso. With under a minute remaining in the right, Herrig added another right jab. She followed with a takedown, knee shots to the body and another takedown to close a strong second round.
The Houston crowd got into it again to start the third round, showing support for Grasso, despite struggling the first two rounds. Grasso went for a takedown, but Herrig featured her skills on the ground by getting on top and firing away with shots. Coming close to a TKO finish, Grasso pushed away and escaped the finish.

Knowing she is likely trailing on the scorecards, Grasso tried to stay aggressive. She defended Herrig’s takedown with a minute left to go in the final round. With less than 10 seconds left, Grasso unleashed with a strong combination. But Herrig responded back with a couple of quick jabs before the final horn.
After starting her career with nine wins in as many fights, Grasso faces her first defeat. She is 1-1 in the UFC.
Meanwhile, Herrig wins consecutive fights for the first time since 2013, back when she was with Bellator. Her record improves to 12-6. She addressed her sole UFC defeat in her octagon interview, which was against Paige VanZant.
Herrig called out VanZant, stating that VanZant did not face the real Herrig and that the fight would be much different. Herrig did say that if VanZant is not available, she wants to fight Michelle Waterson, who defeated VanZant on UFC on Fox this past December.
